NEW Highlanders boss Erol Akbay has said the squad was too big for real tactical drills and he would leave his assistants to continue leading pre-season training while he identifies players he deems fit to play for the club.
Amini Soma-Phiri and technical advisor Cosmas Zulu are in charge.
“This (selection of players) of course will be done in consultation with my technical team,” said Akbay.
He said he would just be observing for now.
“I’ll not be conducting training as yet. We’ve too many players at the moment, but once we’ve the required number I’ll take over,” he said.
With the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League not starting until around April 2, the Dutchman has plenty of time to familiarise himself with the arsenal at his disposal.
More than 35 players are attending Bosso’s pre-season trials despite the club earlier saying it will not be conducting any trials this year.
Among the players trying their luck is Simba Sithole, who was offloaded during the second transfer window in 2015.
