THE Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) yesterday submitted its audit report of the African Cup of Nations qualifier between Zimbabwe and Guinea to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. Former Sports Minister Andrew Langa last week ordered the SRC to audit Zifa books following allegations of financial irregularities after the national association had claimed the match generated a loss of over $12,000.

There were also allegations that four Zifa board members paid themselves $1,000 each, but that payment did not reflect on the income and expenditure statement released by the association. Board member Tawengwa Hara has already publicly admitted that he received $400 as reimbursement for costs he “incurred” for attending the match.

He received the money in the dead of night from fellow board member John Phiri, but his payment too doesn’t reflect on the Zifa income and expenditure statement. SRC spokesman Tirivashe Nheweyembwa last night said the commission had completed its task and had submitted its report to the Sports Ministry.

“We’ve managed to produce our preliminary report and submitted it to the Ministry today (yesterday), that’s all I can say at the moment,” said Nheweyembwa.
