Paulo Jorge Silva
Sikhumbuzo Moyo
DYNAMOS’ Portuguese coach, Paulo Jorge Silva must be told, without any hesitation that his behaviour is a huge embarrassment to the country’s most successful football club. He must be told, also without any hesitation, that his behaviour will not be tolerated in this country. He must, as I would like to say, be told that this is Zimbabwe, not Portugal.
If this mystery man, who has coached an incredible 11 clubs since his retirement from playing football in 2012, thinks he has the physical statue to box people then I advise that he calls our very own Thamsanqa Dube for some sparring.
There was an outcry when he had a fallout with big Takesure Chinyama with fans accusing the player of disrespecting his coach but it has since been crystal clear now that Silva has no shine as a silver metal. He now has since had busts up with his assistants Lloyd Mutasa and Gift Muzadzi, both loyal sons of The Glamour Boys. He also stands accused of using the F word on his players.
His worst crime surely was on Thursday when he physically attacked a ZBC news crew team who had gone to cover the BancABC sponsored side’s training session.
He charged at the poor cameralady Vivian Bangamu demanding that she deletes the footage she had captured resulting in Bangamu spraining her wrist in the process.
This certainly cannot be allowed in this country. Why should this mystery man, who from the look of things might have cheated even the Department of Immigration when he applied for his work permit, according to investigations by Newsday, be allowed to be a bully in our midst? Why should he attack us?
Yes, cheated because some of the teams that he claimed to have coached have since distanced themselves from him. One such team is German giants VFB Stuttgart who told the daily that Silva might have worked with youngsters at a nearby school.
It’s just like someone coaching kids at Mzilikazi Primary School and then later claiming he coached Highlanders because of the school’s proximity to Barbourfields Stadium, Bosso’s home ground.
Nigeria’s COD United is the only team of the 11 that the Portuguese fella claimed to have coached that he really worked with. Even a check on the internet reveals that, the rest, only him and him alone knows the truth.
But it is his violent behaviour that is surely a cause for concern to us members of the media, fans and indeed the Dynamos administration.
Perhaps his anger could also be racially motivated, we can’t rule that out. Does he see us (blacks) as second class members of the human race hence his love for the F word on the Dynamos players?
If you see someone fighting with a God- fearing person like Lloyd Mutasa then you know wheels are indeed off. Dynamos chairman Kenny Mubaiwa must tell the nation where this strange man came from.
We know he is Portuguese, that is his nationality, but in football circles who imposed him on this great institution?
We may also start arguing that he could be an agent of destruction. Sponsors might not want to be associated with a club whose technical head is literally a thug. Sponsors want mileage for their product but if the media gets bashed while on official duty, how can the sponsors benefit?
Silva’s behaviour cannot be allowed to continue unchecked hence our reminder to him that this is Zimbabwe not Portugal.
