FOUR Bulawayo schools will travel to Harare this morning for the National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) beach volleyball tournament to be held at Ellis Robins High this weekend.
Mpopoma High and Eveline High will represent the province in the girls’ event while St Columba’s High and Induna High will be the boys’ representatives.
The four teams qualified for the national finals after finishing among the top two in their respective categories during provincial qualifiers held at Masotsha High last week.
Beach volleyball was introduced in secondary schools two years ago and although Masotsha High only adopted the sport last year, it is the only school in the province with a beach volleyball court.
Mpopoma and Eveline were again the Bulawayo representatives in the girls’ section at last year’s tournament held at Tendera High in Mashonaland East where they were bundled out in the preliminary stages.
The Nash head in charge of beach volleyball in Bulawayo Ntombizodwa Gumede commended the four schools’ efforts and urged other schools to take up the sport.
“We’re happy with the level of competition displayed by all schools that took part, especially the winners. We hope they will be even more competitive at the nationals,” said Gumede.
