ZIFA Southern Region say they are ready for the start of the 2016 Division One League after most clubs paid registration fees for their players.
Bryton Malandule, Zifa Southern Region board member for finance, said most clubs had paid commitment fees towards their affiliation.
Registration fees were pegged at $20 per player, down from last season’s $60, and each club was allowed to register 30 players.
Affiliation fees are pegged at $2,500 for old teams, while the five new clubs, Victoria Falls United, ZRP Hwange, ZRP Bulawayo, Talen Vision and Highlanders, each had to pay $3,000.
“We’re here to develop football and not kill it. We’re generally on track in terms of starting our season next week and the good thing is that teams are showing commitment. We’re aware that clubs are facing financial difficulties and that’s why we’re trying to find the best way to have them finish paying their affiliation fees while we play football,” said Malandule.
The former referee said they have given Quelaton director Tawanda Ruzive up to Friday to notify them about his slot, which he repossessed from Nust.
Zimbabwe Saints are reportedly interested in the first division franchise, but it was still not clear if they had reached any agreement with Quelaton.
“They’ve up to Friday to give us a position with regards their franchise so that we know whether to invite another club or not,” said Malandule.
