Triangle 2-2 ZPC Kariba

TWO first half goals from either side were enough as Triangle and ZPC Kariba shared the spoils in this Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Gibbo yesterday.

Both teams played an entertaining first half but it was Triangle who showed their intentions as they took the lead as early as the 3rd when former Melfort striker Simba Makoni headed home a clever chip from Brian Juwayeyi.

There was an entertaining duel in the middle of the park as ZPC Kariba midfielder Never Tigere tried to outwit the evergreen Triangle linkman Hardlife “Chippa” Mavundi.

ZPC Kariba equalised on the half hour mark after a swift counter-attack which saw Triangle leftback Nelson Meson making a schoolboy blunder that enabled veteran striker Limited Chikafa to tap home from close range.

The home side could not believe it when they went 2-1 down in the 35th minute. Tigere picked Lincoln Zvasiya from a corner kick and the latter rose high to take a free header that put the visitors a goal up.

Their joy was, however, shortlived as veteran defender Thomas Sweswe miscued the ball and handled inside the box to give the hosts a lifeline through a penalty.

Marvellous Mukumba stepped up to send Tendai Hove the wrong way as he scored his second goal of the season.

Triangle mentor David “Yogi” Mandigora was happy with a point after the match. “I wanted the three points, they scored two quick goals as they came from behind to take the lead but we showed character and pushed forward for our second goal . . . I will take the point,” Mandigora said.

His opposite number Sunday Chidzambwa conceded the game was tough but was happy with getting a point on the road.

“We will take that one point to Kariba. I’ve a strong squad and we will take it one game at a time. We’ve some tough challenges ahead, we will be playing at home and we will travel to Harare to face CAPS United in two weeks’ time,” he said
