VETERAN bodybuilder and reigning Mr Zimbabwe, Champion Chienderamwano, has announced his retirement after nine years of competing locally and internationally.
The Botswana-based athlete, who is in the country, has been battling a back injury.
Chienderamwano said he will continue with his VVIP protection job.
The 30-year won the Mr Zimbabwe title three times in a row.
Speaking to our Harare Bureau yesterday, Chienderamwano said it’s high time he takes a break.
“I’ve finally called it a day after competing competitively for a number of years.
‘‘I’ve an injury which began as a shoulder injury but it extended to the back and I saw it wise to quit.
“I’ll be in the gym but I won’t be working as hard as I used to do and I’ll now focus on VVIP protection which is the job I’ve been doing in Botswana.
“It has been a long journey and I think I should give others a chance as I’ve played my part.
“I managed to take the Mr Zimbabwe title, the Mr Ironman and the Mr MuscleMania so I’ve won everything on offer.
“There are a lot of good athletes who are coming through,” said Chienderamwano.
The athlete said there is life after bodybuilding.
“It’s very important to monitor your health and it’s one thing that I’ve considered. There are some challenges which we need to overcome and that’s what I’m doing.
“I had a lot of support from my wife and companies like Choppies Botswana, Cresta Lodge (Botswana) as well as Midtech.
“I can now focus on my transport business so that by the time I reach 40 I would have worked for my family,” said Chienderamwano.
