MORE than 250 delegates will converge for a three-day inaugural National Sports Convention at Bulawayo Polytechnic College to tackle issues that affect sports in the country.
The convention starts tomorrow and will be officially opened by Sport and Recreation Minister Makhosini Hlongwane on Saturday.
According to the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) provincial coordinator for Bulawayo, Sam Dzvimbu, 18 speakers have been lined-up to make presentations on various topics that will be up for discussion.
“Some of the topical issues up for discussion include the reality of football in the country, managing the three Cs (culture, communication and change) in the organisational development of sport, sports marketing and revenue management, strong executive coaching programme and athletes,” said Dzvimbu.
He said the value of sports in human development, women’s emerging sports bodies, empowering women in sport as well as breaking into the sports law industry, security and social media in sports will also be discussed.
The convention will be held under the theme “Social, educational and commercial impact of sport”.
Some local speakers expected to address the convention are Premier Soccer League chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele, his counterpart at the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee Anna Mguni, Tim Middleton, Lovemore Banda and Sipho Rusare from Nust.
The president of the International Council for Coaching Excellence, John Bales, from Canada and the founder and president of the Federation of International SuperSoccer Eric Asomugha from Nigeria will also make presentations at the meeting.
Principal labour consultant Eliah Zvimba will make a presentation on sports law.
“Our delegates should be coming from all over the country and we especially expect those at decision-making level from sports associations, schools and even uniformed forces to attend. We expect heads in charge of various sports codes in schools to be in attendance as well,” said Dzvimbu.
