SUBURBAN and CID were yesterday knocked out of the Propol Sports Gala whose semi-finals and final are set for today at the Ross Camp grounds.

Nkulamane take on Police Headquarters and Central come up against Bulawayo West in the soccer semi-finals.

It was a bitter exit for CID as Nkulumane went through to the semi-finals despite failing to score a single goal in their two drawn games in Group B.

A draw between Bulawayo Central and CID would have seen both sides going through, but the plainclothes cops suffered a spectacular collapse following an injury to their steadying force Philani Khumalo and eventually lost 1-3.

Khumalo is suspected to have pulled a muscle probably due to the hard surface of the Milton High School grounds where the games were played.

In Group B, Bulawayo West surrendered a 1-0 lead against Police Headquarters by conceding a silly penalty right at the death for a share of the spoils.

The draw knocked out Suburban, who also failed to score a single goal in their group matches.

Not even the presence of station commanders Fiso Siziba of Queens Park Police Station and his Donnington counterpart Phathisani Khanye could spur Suburban to victory.

Group A was composed of police stations that make up Bulawayo West, Suburban and Police Headquarters, while Group B had Nkulumane, CID and Bulawayo Central.

Nkulumane beat Bulawayo Central 1-0 in the only ladies’ match.

After the games today, a provincial squad that will represent Bulawayo at the annual Commissioner General’s Sports Gala set for August in Bulawayo will be selected.
