POLICE HQ won the 2016 edition of the Bulawayo Propol Sports Gala that ended in the city yesterday. The gala, which started on Wednesday, was also used to select a team that will represent Bulawayo in the Commissioner General’s Gala set for the City of Kings in August.

Nkulumane emerged second, while Bulawayo West were third, with Suburban and Central coming fourth and fifth respectively.

In the men’s football final, Nkulumane edged favourites Bulawayo West 5-3 on penalties after the two sides were deadlocked 1-1 in regulation time.

The officer commanding Bulawayo province, Senior Assistant Commissioner Stephen Mutamba, has challenged police officers to possess the spirit of achievement and ambition for them to accomplish more than those with similar intelligence.

In a speech read on his behalf by the officer commanding police (administration) Assistant Commissioner Christopher Gora, Bulawayo’s top cop said if one had an authentic ambition to excel in a certain area, they were likely to put in the necessary time and energy to gain the knowledge and practice the skills that need perfection.

“The process of human change begins within you as individuals; you all have tremendous potential, you all desire good results from your efforts and most of you are willing to work hard and I therefore urge you to put your unique human potential into action to acquire a desired result,” said Mutamba.

He said the provincial police leadership would avail a level playing field for the provincial team’s preparations.

“We all trust and hope that this event enables the province to select a formidable team to compete in the 2016 Commissioner General Sports Gala.”

Gora took the opportunity to warn those selected into the provincial team against absconding training sessions, while having registered at their respective stations as attending practice.

“We will not take likely to such malcontents,” Gora said.
