STRUGGLING Highlanders Royals have a rare chance of not only getting their first goal of the season but a first win when they play host to Magwegwe in a Southern Region Women Football League match set for the club house this morning. The Jackie Ngwenya-coached Royals had a terrible start to the season as they have not won or scored in the six matches played so far.
The team which was revived by a group of female Highlanders members that include businesswoman Caroline Ndlovu, former Zimbabwe Referees’ Committee boss Samukeliso Silengane, veteran woman football administrator Cecilia Malunga among others, have the potential of becoming a powerhouse.
The revival of the team is also in line with the Fifa club licencing requirements which the Highlanders institution has fully embraced and is in the process of implementing. Today’s match can go either way as Magwegwe have the potential of causing a huge upset.
In other matches, Hwange Ladies boasting leading league goalscorer Nomazulu Tshuma, have a tricky away tie against Blackboots at Fairbridge. The match is set for 11AM. Blackboots will be eager to avoid back to back home loss. At Cowdray Park, former Mighty Warriors striker Ntombie “Tsola” Ndlovu who plays for Hearts of Oak faces her former Cowdray Park Queens teammates. Most of Hearts of Oak players are from Cowdray Park Queens including the coach Evans Netha.
Free scoring Inline Academy welcome league returnees Borrow Jets at Masotsha High Scool. It could be a miserable trip for the Thembelani Dhliwayo run Borrow Jets. Games featuring ZRP Byo and New Orleans as well as that between Sobukhazi and Street Set have been postponed to a later date.
