A TOP Kenyan athletics coach Edward Muema Munguti will lead a cast of foreign delegates to the third edition of the Sports Leaders’ Institute of Zimbabwe (SLIZ) Winter Camp to be held in Masvingo this week.
The sports management camp, which is a platform for administrators to brainstorm and come up with solutions to challenges faced in the development of athletes, among other sporting issues, will be held at Great Zimbabwe from July 22-24.
Russell Mhiribidi, the SLIZ director, said they had invited guest speakers from Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia and Tanzania for the camp.
Munguti will address a plenary session on Kenyan athletics alongside Winnie Tubey and Purity Mureithi.
Devota Marwa from Tanzania’s University of Dar es Salaam will present a paper on sports marketing, while Musunza Sombwa from the Olympic Youth Development Centre of Zambia will speak on podium athlete development (PAD).
“It’s all systems go and our delegates start arriving on Wednesday. Foreign speakers are meant to give us another dimension on how they tackle physical education and sport development in their countries. Kenya is renowned for producing worldclass athletes and the presence of Munguti, who has worked with top runners in his native country, is a big boost for our sports management winter camp. So delegates should be prepared for an exciting and informative camp,” said Mhiribidi.
SLIZ is targeting representatives from national sporting associations, tertiary institutions, Naph and Nash as well as football clubs to attend this capacity building workshop.
FC Platinum sent representatives to last year’s edition and clubs such as Bantu Rovers, who value junior development, are expected to participate at this year’s winter camp.
SLIZ is a body whose mission is to facilitate and provide a conducive environment for optimum growth and advancement of the nation’s sports leaders with emphasis on capacity building and professional development in line with existing global trends.
Registration fees for the winter camp are $365 for SLIZ members and $450 for non-members.
Mhiribidi said they had also made contingency plans for late registrations that will close on Friday morning.
