TWENTY-FOUR coaches are attending an International Tennis Federation (ITF) Level 2 coaching course at Harare Sports Club that runs up to the end of the month.

The coaches comprise 11 Zimbabweans and 13 others from around southern Africa. The course is being conducted by the South African duo of Riaan Kruger and Andre De Boer, and is sponsored by the Olympic Solidarity Trust through the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee.

Tennis Zimbabwe secretary Cliff Nhokwara said the objective of the course is to impart competencies to coaches that train intermediate and professional players.

“The course is very important in the development of the sport as it helps to improve the standard of coaching. It is targeted at coaches that are taking pro-level players as well as those junior players who want to turn professional,” said Nhokwara.

“I hope that come October 30 when the course ends, the coaches would have learnt a great deal which will go a long way in the development of the sport, not only in the country, but the region as a whole.”

The course will cover advanced biomechanics, technique and tactics, teaching methodology, physical training and applied psychology for tennis.

Meanwhile, TZ has suspended all tournaments until December to pave way for public examinations that are underway as most players are drawn from schools.

Nhokwara said tournaments will begin in December after the public examinations when Zimbabwe begins preparations for the African
Junior Championships set for January 2016.
