CHOPPIES Zimbabwe will play host to their Botswana counterparts in a football match set for White City Stadium this afternoon.
The international friendly match will see employees from the giant retail outlet leaving their workstations for the green fields of a football turf.
“It’s basically meant to give an opportunity to our guys from the two countries to get to know each other, interact and even exchange a few notes in a relaxed environment,” said Choppies Zimbabwe director Siqokoqela Mphoko.
He said besides the difference in location, Choppies Zimbabwe and Choppies Botswana remained one big family hence the need to interact away from the shop floor.
Choppies was born in 1986 in a Botswana town called Lobatse. From 1993, Choppies embarked on a great expansion drive, with new stores being opened. In 2008, Choppies introduced its footprint in South Africa, opening a store in Zeerust in the North West. As part of the group’s expansion drive, 2013 saw Choppies moving into Zimbabwe. In 2014, a distribution centre in Zimbabwe was opened.
The retail giant is probably the fastest growing supermarket chain in the country at the moment in terms of its expansion rate.
