Gift Mbweti

Sikhumbuzo Moyo, Senior Sports Reporter
HWANGE’s pint sized hitman Gift Mbweti is joint Castle Lager Premier Soccer League leading goalscorer with resurgent Caps United veteran striker Leonard Tsipa with eight goals each.

This is contrary to reports in some sections of the media that the 34 year old Tsipa was now leading the goalscorer’s chats with nine goals following his match winning goal against Chicken Inn on Sunday, one ahead of Mbweti, 10 years his junior who was just a 12 year old boy when Tsipa and Belgium based Brian Badza terrorised defenders at will under Charles Mhlauri in 2004. The error seems to have occurred when Caps United routed Mutare City 4-1 towards the end of last month with journalists crediting Tsipa with a goal which however was scored by Joel Ngodzo according to the Premier Soccer League.

According to a PSL goalscorers chart for Week 22 before the past weekend games, Mbweti was leading the pack with eight goals while the trio of Tsipa, Kudakwashe Gurure of Mutare City and the now Tanzania-based Bruce Kangwa were all sitting on seven goals while Obadiah Tarumbwa of Chicken Inn and Hwange’s Gilbert Zulu had five goals each.

Tsipa is the only player who found the nets in the past weekend from the leading pack while Dynamos’ Masimba Mambare took his tally to five following his 28th minute strike against Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium.

Mambare is now level with Hwange’s Zulu and Tarumbwa.

Seven: Bruce Kangwa (Highlanders), Kudakwashe Gurure (Mutare City)
