DEFENDING Bulawayo basketball champions, Southern Mavericks’ coach Mxolisi Ndlovu is confident his team will not slip up as they look to defend their title when the season begins next month.
Having won bronze with the National University of Science and Technology at provincial level, gold with Southern Mavericks in the league and another gold at national level last season, Ndlovu said his side has started preparing for the title defence.
“We are looking forward to the coming season.
“It won’t be an easy road because there is that pressure of being champions and defending the title will be tough.
“However, we are going to do our best to defend the championship,” said Ndlovu.
He also said that as much as they are preparing for the basketball league, their main focus is to win the pre-season tournament which will be played on October 8.
“Right now our main concentration is on the pre-season tournament.
“This is one of the hurdles we need to jump on our way to defending the title.
“If we win the tournament we will know we are on the right track,” he said.
Southern Mavericks have made only one addition to the team towards the pre-season tournament.
They have added Sibongile Mkandla who has been playing for Lakers and Ndlovu believes she will make a huge contribution to the squad.
“We have seen her play and I think she is a great addition to the team. She will make this team stronger,” he said — @khumzallen.
