THE Sports Leaders Institute of Zimbabwe (Sliz) will hold a three-day pre-summer camp meeting in Nyanga to plan for their end of year conference set for the same eastern highlands venue.

The third edition of the Sliz Summer Camp will run from November 25-27 in the holiday destination.

Russell Mhiribidi, Sliz director, said the pre-summer camp meeting starts on Friday and is aimed at assessing the venues and finalising topics to be presented at the November camp.

“Last year we were overwhelmed during the second edition of the summer camp held in Kariba and this time around we want to be better prepared for a bigger number.

“With the government set to roll out the physical education and sport (PES) syllabus in 2017, we expect a big turnout from the education sector.

“This strategic meeting will help us come up with topics that seek to complement and prepare participants for the PES syllabus,” said Mhiribidi.

He believes PES will be a game changer. “And with the policy starting from ECD (Early Childhood Development) up to A-level, it will be a game changer for sport in the country as you know that the largest base of athletes in the country is in the schools,” said Mhiribidi.

Mhiribidi, who is also chairperson of the African Sports Management Association (ASMA) Southern Region chapter responsible for organising training programmes for sports administrators in Southern Africa, challenged aspiring participants to register for the summer camp early.

In the Kariba November 2015 summer camp, organisers were overwhelmed when numbers surpassed the 200 participant target by 67.
