HEARTS of Oaks will have to do without their first choice goalkeeper Thabitha Mpofu when they face Highlanders Royals today in a Southern Region Women Football League after she picked up a knee injury during the week.
Mpofu twisted her knee while doing house chores at her home. It is not yet known how long Mpofu will be out of action.
“I went to see a doctor and I was told to undergo an x-ray. Right now I am not sure how long I will be out of action but hopefully, I will be back soon. I know the team will perform at its best because we have a good replacement,” said Mpofu.
Hearts of Oaks will be travelling to the club house in high spirits following a 3-0 victory over Cowdray Park Queens last week.
Royals on the other hand will be hoping to atone for their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Magwegwe Stars.
Last week’s round of matches produced a rather shocking result after Borrow Jets managed to end Inline Academy’s 14 match winning streak by handing the table toppers a 2-0 defeat. Inline coach Boga Ndebele looked unfazed with the result as he said the loss was a blessing in disguise.
“We are now in the climax of the season, someone needed to give us a reality check so that we keep our heads focused on the title,” Ndebele said.
Inline will be in action today when they clash with Street Set at Sizinda.
Saturday fixtures:
Black Boots vs Magwegwe Stars (Fairbridge), Cowdray Park Queens vs New Orleans (C/Park TM grounds), Sobukhazi vs Hwange Ladies (Sobukhazi), Street Set vs Inline Academy (Sizinda), Highlanders Royals vs Hearts of Oaks (Club house), ZRP Bulawayo vs Borrow Jets (Makokoba).
