THE Zimbabwe Wrestling Federation (ZWF) has moved to amend its constitution in line with a Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) directive to streamline its activities.
ZWF vice-president Tapiwa Masinire said the new constitution, set to be presented to the SRC this week, has incorporated all 15 styles of wrestling.
“We are just finalising the process of amending our constitution after the ministerial directive through the SRC that we should regularise our operations. Under the new constitution, we will bring together all the 15 wrestling styles under the ZWF,” said Masinire.
“We received input from all the stakeholders, including provinces, Naph and Nash and we hope to present the constitutional amendments to the SRC by the end of this week.”
Masinire said the local wrestling body was also working on research to see whether the local game horseplay, commonly known as chikudo, can also be incorporated into wrestling styles and be recognised internationally.
Meanwhile, two Zimbabweans have been invited to take part in the Palhavani World Championships in Belarus from November 9-15. Palhavani is an Iranian wrestling style.
Black Rhinos’ Admire Tagwirei and 20-year-old Paddington Mashaire of Zororo Wrestling Club in Harare will represent the country at the championships.
Masinire was confident the duo will do well at the championships.
“These are the best wrestlers we have in this style of wrestling and are among the five wrestlers in the country that have international wrestling licences and I have no doubt they will acquit themselves well at the championships.”
The invitation of the duo comes in the wake of Henry Muriri competing in the Belt Wrestling championships in Kazakhstan where he emerged in the top 10.
