THE first ever Caf C Licence course hosted by Midlands province ended at Chaplin High School in Gweru yesterday with 29 participants having taken part in the 10-day course.

Caf instructor Nelson Matongorere and Zifa technical director Taurai Mangwiro conducted the coaching course as instructor and assessor respectively.

Participants in the coaching course included former Highlanders defender Gift Lunga Jr as well as the former Black Rhinos quartet of Maronga Nyangela, Britto Gwere, Gift Makoni and Jack Mutandagai.

Former Jets goalkeeper Shaiso Chiduku, former Chapungu players Dumisani Mufudze, Brighton Muchambo and Tawanda Marimo, former Bosso stars Joel Luphahla and Innocent Mapuranga, and Thomas Sweswe also took part in the course.

Lindiwe Ndlovu was the only female participant in the high-level course.

Matongorere described the course as a success and said he was pleased with the level of discipline and commitment shown by the participants.

“This course is one of the most successful I have conducted and I would like to commend the discipline that all the participants showed throughout.

“I only hope that they can carry that through to their teams,” said Matongorere.

“It is good that we had this high turnout because this is the only way that the standard of football will improve in the country.”

Zifa is set to introduce standardisation for local coaches across the board from grassroots to the elite level, as part of a development initiative aimed at improving and nurturing talent in the country.

High Performance Centre technical committee member Innocent Chogugudza and national development member Benedict Moyo also observed the coaching course.
