The national selectors have chosen a 16-man squad for the tour of Bangladesh. Zimbabwe will tour Bangladesh from November 2-16, for three One-Day International (ODIs) and two Twenty20 International matches.

The ODI matches are on November 7, 9 and 11, while the Twenty20 International games are on November 13 and 15.

The national squad, to be led by Elton Chigumbura, includes twelve players — Chamunorwa Chibhabha, Craig Ervine, Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza Butt, Richmond Mutumbami, Wellington Masakadza, Taurai Muzarabani, John Nyumbu, Tinashe Panyangara, Malcolm Waller, Tendai Chisoro, and Neville Madziva — who were in the squad that played against Afghanistan at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo during the second half of October.

Brian Chari, Kevin Kasuza, Tinotenda Mutombodzi and Christopher Mpofu were part of that group, but will now join the Zimbabwe A squad to play in the home series against Bangladesh A.

There are recalls to the senior national squad for Regis Chakabva who had good performances for the A side against Ireland, and Graeme Cremer who has recovered from an ankle injury sustained during one of the ODI matches against Ireland earlier in the month.

The national selectors have also announced Zimbabwe A squads to play three unofficial ODI and two unofficial Test matches against Bangladesh A, at the Harare Sports Club.

Mashonaland Eagles captain Tinotenda Mutombodzi will lead Zimbabwe A for the one-dayers which are on November 2,4 and 6. He will be deputised by Matabeleland Tuskers captain Godwill Mamhiyo.

They will swop roles for the four-dayers, which start on November 9 and 15.

Commenting on the squads, the convener of the national selection panel, Kenyon Ziehl, said: “We’ve picked a senior national squad that we believe will quickly recover from the disappointing series against Afghanistan and go to Bangladesh to show that we’re a competitive nation.

“We’ve recalled Chakabva on the back of his strong performances for the A side against Ireland recently, as well as Cremer who has been declared fit to play.”

“It’s also exciting to have the A side playing concurrently with the senior team as this will give us a clear picture of our depth. We hope the players included will make the most of this opportunity to play against a Bangladesh A which will be a quality side,” Ziehl added.
