Rising star Luther Singh scored a sensational hat-trick and Menzi Ndwandwe weighed in with a double as Amajita, South Africa men’s u20 national team walloped Angola 5-0 in a one-sided semifinal match to book a final date with Zambia in the Cosafa Cup tournament taking place at Moruleng Stadium in the North West.
Earlier on Wednesday, Zambia who will host next year’s u20 Afcon tournament beat DR Congo 2-1 in the other semi-final, setting up what looks like an epic final at Moruleng Stadium. The final match kicks off at 1730hrs today.
It didn’t take long for the Burger King sponsored Amajita to hit their strides and after missing a few gilt-edged chances, Ndwandwe finished off a well-worked move to give the hosts a deserved 1-0 lead on the 20th minute.
Thabo Senong’s charges then literally camped in Angola’s half but they had to wait until a few minutes before half time before Ndwandwe completed his brace with a good header to give Amajita a healthy 2-0 half time lead.
There was a long delay before the second half started after a massive power failure but once everything had been restored to normality, Amajita were back in business.
And it truly became Singh’s show as he toyed with the opponents as if he was going through a routine move.
First, he danced past a number of Angolan defenders before planting a powerfully curving shot past the Angolan keeper.
He then finished another wonderfully worked break-away goal to make it 4-0 before he completed his magnificent hat-trick with an audacious straight forward goal after the Amajita forwards had prised open the Angola defence.
An excited Singh who was named man of the match for his outstanding night said this was the beginning of greater things to come from him.
“I am excited that I have helped my team to reach the final but I want to continue doing great things for my country. Watch this space,” he said after the post match press engagement.” — SuperSport
