BULAWAYO City postponed their awards ceremony that had been scheduled for last Saturday night to Friday December 11 at the Small City Hall. The event is meant to reward their players for winning the Southern Region Soccer League championship. “Unfortunately due to some logistical challenges, we had to cancel our awards ceremony initially scheduled for Saturday. We’ll have the event this coming Friday and we’re working on it. The mayor of Bulawayo Martin Moyo will be the guest of honour,” said City chairman Jerry Sibanda.
According to the latest council report, the director of housing and community services Isaiah Magagula had been granted permission to hold the awards ceremony at the Small City Hall.
Some of the players that will walk away with accolades are striker Qinani “Chroma” Sibanda, who netted six goals and created numerous scoring opportunities for his teammates throughout the season.
Captain Xolisani “Scara” Moyo, who joined the club from Premier Soccer League side How Mine at the beginning of the year, could walk away with two accolades; the Players’ Player of the Year and the Player of the Year.
Moyo was inspirational in City’s campaign, with his experience acquired from his stints with Chicken Inn and How Mine coming in handy as he guided the ambitious local authority-bankrolled club to the PSL.
Other players that had a great season at City include midfield trio of Innocent “Joker” Kutsanzira, Eddie Nkulungo and Humphrey “Muchichwa” Ncube as well as promising Trevor Ndlovu.
Nkulungo and Ncube were among City’s top scorers; each getting five goals, while Kutsanzira was voted among the Southern Region Soccer League’s best 11 players.
