THE newly elected vice president of Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) Brian Manuel said his executive’s focus will be on the development of the sport at grassroots level in order to increase participation.
ZVA held their elections last week at Marondera which ushered in a new executive to serve up to December 2018.
Ringisai Mapondera will be leading the new executive after being elected president while Manuel and Enias Kondo were voted as first and second vice-presidents respectively.
“The new executive is there to serve the people. We hope to develop the sport at grassroots level with the help of provincial associations so that we have a strong base for the national team. This will be done regardless of which province one is coming from as we seek to improve the sport nation-wide. The development phase is the most difficult one but we are dtermined. If we manage to increase number of participation and get more players involved in the game we will certainly go far.
“There is no short cut when it comes to grassroot level. If we take a short cut, we will never get to the next level,” said Manuel.
Other members of the new executive are Mxolisi Ndlovu who will be coming in as the Treasurer while Tawanda Sithole is the new Secretary-general.
The committee members are Juliet Kaseke, Nyashadzashe Takawira and Mercy Chatyoka.
